England midfielder Jordan Henderson admits he has faced "tough moments" after leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia and admits he might "taken different decisions".

The 35-year-old was widely criticized for exiting Liverpool in 2023 to play for Al-Ettifaq in a country where LGBTQ+ relationships are against the law.

Henderson had previously been a high-profile advocate of LGBTQ+ rights and expressed regret for upsetting or hurting people in the community when he departed from Saudi Arabia to join Ajax following a six-month period.

England Career and Reflections

Henderson was left out of Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad but is back to the Premier League with Brentford and the England squad under Thomas Tuchel.

"I don't believe it was the factor why I missed the Euros," Henderson remarked. "When I was in Saudi I think I was in each gathering leading up to the Euros."

"Timing, with all things in hindsight, yes - possibly I would have taken different decisions."

"However at the time that's how I thought and the decision I made was for numerous reasons and solely I know them reasons."

Emotional Struggles

"Honestly speaking, over the past few years I have had various tough moments. It felt like a break-up when I left Liverpool."

"Certainly I'm not perfect and I've made mistakes in the past. Of course I will have during my career."

"But all I've ever sought to do is the right thing."

England Experience

Henderson has won 85 caps since making his England debut against France in 2010.

He is in Tuchel's squad to compete against Wales and Latvia this week and believes he still has much to offer on the pitch.

"The crucial people are the coach, the backroom staff and the players and what they think," said Henderson.

"Inquire with them what they feel, if I am a cheerleader when I am here. I don't believe one of the finest managers in Europe would be picking me just to do that."
